Carefully preserved in excellent condition, with minimal dust and no damage to the paint or varnish. 2. The mold structure may be cracked, causing a slight crunching sound when shaken. This is not visible from the outside or inside. Designed and crafted by the Shengxian County Artistic Bamboo Weaving Factory, this elephant design was the first of its kind and marks the beginning of wicker bamboo animal craftsmanship. History of Wicker Bamboo Animals: • Wicker bamboo animals were pioneered by bamboo weaving master Yu Zhang Gen in Shengxian County, Zhejiang, China, in 1966. During an interview, Master Yu shared that the inspiration came from observing foreign visitors’ keen interest in animal-shaped porcelains during a trip to Hangzhou. He envisioned using bamboo weaving to create animal figures. • Crafting wicker bamboo animals is a comprehensive art form that involves design, mold-making, weaving, assembly, and the application of paint and varnish. • Each design is assigned a unique serial number. • Shengxian County Artistic Bamboo Weaving Factory became renowned for its intricate wicker animal designs and expert craftsmanship. • The factory’s designs were developed by the design and innovation department. • Initially, these designs were exported by Shanghai Handicrafts and later by Zhejiang Handicrafts Import-Export Corporation due to the factory’s lack of direct trading rights with foreign countries.
