Description
A classic magazine from the first half of the 20 th century! This is the April 1935 issue of Better Homes & Gardens. Its cover has a painted illustration of an imposing home with a set of blueprints nearby. The caption is “In This Issue: How to Build, Furnish and Plant This Home.” The magazine features numerous black & white and color illustrations and photos to accompany its articles/features. The magazine is a like a “time capsule,” allowing a reader to learn about home design and interior design in the mid-1930s. In addition, there are many vintage black & white and color advertisements. The magazine contains 140 pages and measures approximately 8.5 x 12 inches. Better Homes and Gardens is the fourth best-selling magazine in the United States. The magazine focuses on interests regarding homes, cooking, gardening, crafts, healthy living, decorating and entertaining. The magazine is published monthly by the Meredith Corporation. It was founded in 1922 by Edwin Meredith, who had previously been the United States Secretary of Agriculture under President Woodrow Wilson. The original name was Fruit, Garden and Home from 1922 to 1924. The name was changed in 1925 to Better Homes & Gardens (and later to Better Homes and Gardens).
